NWR Jürgen Klopp - the best ambassador for Germany and Football

:p:p:p

„If ever there was a match that summed up [Jurgen] Klopp as a manager, this was it.
Passion, desire, absolutely incredible. What a win.“

Jamie Redknapp
Former Tottenham midfielder on Sky Sports

“This will go straight into Liverpool folklore, the day a load of kids beat a billion-pound team from London.“

Yup what a final. Agonising to watch. Chelsea were unbelievably poor. How are they in this state after having such investment is beyond a joke. Liverpool didn't really play well but deserved the win through sheer determination. Imagine the scoreline if we'd had a A as opposed to a D team out :p

My nerves are shredded. Hard to believe we won it, but good on Klopp for sending in the kids at the end and good on the kids for playing with such maturity and composure and determination. I first became a Liverpoool fan after seeing the 'never say die' attitude of the teams under Gerrard and that attitude was very much on display yesterday. But as Gareth said, imagine what things would have been like if even half of those injured had been on the field.

Edit: And just to say, thank the lord we didn't end up paying £100 million+ for Caceido and instead got Mac Allister for £35 million.

Redknapp did of course also play for Liverpool for a considerable while.

I didn’t watch the final but although Chelsea have vastly overspent, Liverpool’s transfers and wage bill aren’t miniscule themselves. As a Tottenham fan, I remember well how they gazumped us for the signing of Luis Diaz.

They are not really that high on transfers. The net spend of Tottenham for the last five years is £540 million. Liverpools is less than half at £260 million. Chelsea of course are out in front with £790 million?! Tottenham are also ahead of Liverpool over ten years by £100 million. If you include that underspend in the wage bill Liverpool are also way below Tottenham as well over five and ten years. They have done a pretty remarkable job in both the wage and transfer market. I'm really hoping it all stays together post-Klopp.

Touché, Gareth.

My recollection is that before Spurs built their bigger stadium they couldn’t compete on salaries with Liverpool et al. Maybe that was a factor in Spurs spending more on transfers, but nonetheless in the 30 years of my supporting Spurs they’ve also made a great many poor transfers.

Thanks for posting the interview link. I'm a big Liverpool fan and was fortunate to be at the European Cup Final in Istanbul, 2005. What a match that was! Following Liverpool home and away was my big passion in the early 2000s. Now I'm back in NZ, wine has taken over, but it will indeed be a sad day seeing Klopp leave. He isn't Liverpool's greatest ever manager (despite what the press are trying to say - that mantle goes to Shankly or Paisley if we are counting trophies IMO). But what a manager he has been and a great ambassador for the club, and indeed the Premier League.

I guess that is true. BUT what an impact he had regarding the city, fans and club. Look around, is there anyone on this level?!

In Germany only Beckenbauer comes to my mind. He was a football god.

Fair to say as a foreigner I have no clue whether Guardiola has the same impact, besides football.
