On tap in a pint glass at Mission Brewing, San Diego. Brewed with five New Zealand hops: Nelson Sauvin, Pacific Gem, Rakau, Motueka and Wai-Iti. First, some words from SanTan Brewing Co. in Arizona: “There is no hop grown anywhere else in the world that even comes close to the alpha acid and essential oils inherent in the New Zealand hop pantheon”. That said, Kia Ora lived up to its NZ expectations. Starting with a tropical punch floral nose, this little gem was packed full of citrusy tropical fruit flavours with minimal bitterness. Notes of Passion fruit, apricots, peaches, some light pineapple and honeydew melon all then conspired to bring a clean, crisp aspect to the New Zealand hops. A smorgasbord of Opal Fruits in the finish completed a delicious, refreshing flavour profile that was simply gorgeous. This was our first visit to Mission Brewing, situated in an old Wonder Bread building, but it won’t be our last!
