NWR Silly little things that delight you

This one lives next door to us. Apparently it just appeared one day (before we moved here three years ago) and took up residence. It’s thought to have flown off from a place on the other side of the village, where half a dozen of them live. It’s called Nigel, which somehow seems perfect. His antics are very amusing. Among other things, he displays his tail to the neighbour’s one-eyed hen, on which he must have amorous designs. He’s a truly beautiful and exotic creature but we just wish he’d keep out of our vegetable patch, where he likes to eat the beans. He appears to be a different species from your visitor.

Another amusing acquisition from the same auction last week.
"A bottle of Smith Woodhouse 10yr old port and 4 bottles/half bottles of wine". The bottles of wine not worth mentioning included:

Any thoughts on how drinkable these might be? The Noble One is an alarming colour but I see some people trying to sell similar on the web.

Can't comment on the Noble One but I've visited Rolly Gassmann, in Alsace, quite a few times. They are one of the few producers that hold on to their wines until they think they are ready for drinking. 2007 was an excellent vintage so expect the PG to be very rich - their house style tends towards higher RS - and powerful, but should be clean on the finish.

Had several older Noble Ones and they can be quite special. Yes they were a very deep colour.

Can be used as the base for really good pistachio ice cream - need to make sure you get one with a high pistachio content - my current jars are 45% (Bronte) pistachio, but higher would be fine too.
Pure 100% Bronte paste is what is used by the best restaurants. It is extremely expensive and only comes in 1kg pots, however. I am always disappointed when my pistachio ice cream is brown and made with roasted nuts, which is what usually happens. Le Gavroche used to make a superb version.
