Supermarket promotions Q2 2022

Waitrose have ten £10 "fine wines", similar to the promotion they run early in December, running from now until 19 April.
Selection includes
- Villa Antinori,
- Graham Beck fizz
- Rustenberg Chardonnay
I bunged a Chard in my order of 24 fizz to bump the total to £250, to be able to get nominated day delivery on 16/4 but instead they sent 25 x Chardonnay a week early, today. No doubt the fizz will have run out by the time they send the replacement. lol

Exiting a supermarket I decided to stop in at a nearby liquor store. Imagine my surprise when I spotted a range of older wines from a Sonoma winery all on clearance: Kunde Estate 2003 Merlot, 2004 Syrah, 2005 Cabernet, 2007 Viognier, and 2004 Reserve Old Vine Zinfandel from Shaw Vineyard, said to be one of the oldest Zinfandel vineyard in Sonoma. Each bottle was only C$13, which converts to £8.50!!!

I was a little apprehensive about the wines as I had no idea how long they had those wines but I thought they were worth a try. So far the Merlot and the Syrah were very pleasant, the fruit rather silky and the tannins fully resolved.

I see Majestic have an offer on champagne too. Usual form , brings it down to another uncompettetive price.

having just got back from Tescos and denuded them of Taittinger it was interested to note on the 6 packs “imported by Hatch & Mansfield”

Hi David,

H&M are the UK importer, so all stock purchases **normally** in the UK would have these labels.

Cheers,

Steve

An update on the Asda promotion
"Asquith Gardens" English fizz is just £10 and (unlike Champagne) is included in the 25% off. The same producer, "Rolling Green Hills" is responsible for Morrisons own label English fizz. They are elusive online but appear to be in the same ownership as Nyetimber.

Also, for a retro vibe, Lindemans Bin 65 Chardonnay is £6 -> £4.50.

Oooohhh be careful with this one - here is my note from when I re-tried it a couple of years ago (which was entirely the fault of @Thom Blach ;)):

I picked up 6 of these today, which came to the princely total of £44.96 after discount. I note on the label it claims to have been aged for 5 years after bottling, so I am hopeful of a decent wine.

We will try one in the next couple of days, after which 1 of 2 things will happen:

1) I spend the following 2 days tracking down and squirreling away more, or

2) it goes into the box of crap for Vicki's band of harpies to knock back in the garden

We shall see...

I predict the latter.....

Went into Costco today and found some 2014 Viña Arana Gran Reserva, La Rioja Alta, Rioja for 24 inc vat which seems a good price ?
Tasted very good but needed a couple of hours to really open up
