I am undoubtedly tedious on the subject but in 1960 a bottle of Mumm Cordon Rouge NV was the same price as a bottle of La Tache 1952. Champagne has never been cheaper.
I’m pretty sure 110% of the forum are with you in wishing that were still true. Probably in either direction given the ‘quality’ of Mumm these days…I am undoubtedly tedious on the subject but in 1960 a bottle of Mumm Cordon Rouge NV was the same price as a bottle of La Tache 1952. You can certainly call individual departments in Waitrose. Canary Wharf, St Katherine's and Greenwich have always been more than happy to reserve stock if I phoned ahead and then collected it the same or next day.Is it possible to find out what shops have stock of certain wines?
For JS, add the wines you're interested in, reserve a click and collect order and it should show wines not ranged in that store as 'unavailable'. You might have to re-add to your basket if you need to try other stores. Is it possible to find out what shops have stock of certain wines?
Tesco 25% off 6 back on until 15th Dec....Guessing there’ll also be another round for a few days to a week just before Christmas too
It’ll need 2 years bottle age before finding a semblance of finesse.Any views on the current TWS champagne 6-pack offers. I see Lilbert is there with 50% 2017 and 50% reserves. anything tempted anyone?
So Sainsbury's told me that any "fine wine" level Champagnes are entirely out of stock at all stores, they haven't been delisted, but are "on-hold" pending resolution of "Brexit" and "Covid-19" challenges (no political responses please, I am just quoting).
I think it’s 2017.Does anyone know what vintage Guigal CdR is in Tesco just now?
Yes it is 2017.I think it’s 2017.
Costco also reporting Champagne shortages when I visited on Saturday. What do you / we think is going on with the shortages in general? Is there a shortage at the producers themselves? Is the world drinking or hoarding more? Cannot all be Brexit / Covid surely, and if the latter, is that affecting volumes from the producers?
I think I read somewhere that the CIVC has reduced the agreed yields over the past couple of years to prevent Champagne prices falling in the context of reduced demand amid the pandemic. Perhaps that has something to do with it?Demand is not extraordinary, just a demonstration on how difficult it is to get volume into the supply chain because of the logistical challenges of freight capacity and planning.
