  1. Wine container, not cold, overturned (7)

  2. Well, you started it!!

  3. Sleep in for starters for a night of Spanish wine (9)

  4. Well, you can have the honour of naming the x word answers thread, lovey, mmmwah !

  5. I've done a lot of crosswords over Christmas and only one even vaguely wine related clue:

After end of dinner I love a port (3)

  6. Ferdinand !

  7. Yes, Rod, all my clues were pretty "dry" this Xmas. But can we include the hard stuff?

Be warned its from the AZED ..

Maybe Scotch day shortened, weather fickle? (12)

  8. Another scotch, Rod?

Witty in speech? It's the whiskey (3)

  9. That'll be
    rye

    Is the first one
    whiskyfrisky
    or maybe
    friskywhisky
    ?

Mind you, I lived in Scotland for quite some time and it's not an expression I ever heard. Still, nothing less than nonsense to be expected from AZED, and I suppose it fits, sort-of.

  10. Yep, well done Rod - you are obviously into your Scotch.

  11. Tot with a dash of tequila in revived wine (4)

  12. Mum holds festivity back requiring sweet wine (6)

  13. Measure introduced, abnormal charge for wine (8)

  14. Mum holds festivity back requiring sweet wine (6)
    malaga

Measure introduced, abnormal charge for wine (8)
    grenache

But I have spent way too much time that could've been put to the consumption of sherry, or sticking pins into my eyes, or something else similarly valuable over:

Tot with a dash of tequila in revived wine (4)

    I suppose it's probably
    stum
But I don't really know why, and I hate it.

  15. A hat trick of correct answers Rod - and with no letters to help, you are a star!

  16. Difficult one now from AZED 2278:

Padre running water around wine dishes (7)

And from the same puzzle, easier but I didn't get it because I'm ill and crap at the moment (I feel like Jelly Head from Viz!)

Wine consumed, mints cafe mostly scattered showing whimsicality (12)

  17. Azed is too difficult for me. Yesterday I completed the Guardian cryptic. The compiler was Rufus, who is probably the easiest of the Guardian setters.

  18. Padre running water around wine dishes (7)

No idea! Although your having actually described it as 'difficult' meant I gave up on it earlier than I did with 'stum' et al. Best I can come up with is:
    usual-azed-bollocks

Wine consumed, mints cafe mostly scattered showing whimsicality (12)
    fantasticism
    I rather like that, however.

    A couple of easy ones:

Pompous man is left rambling about wine (4-9)

Bubbly title-holder, beaten finally in time (9)

Here's a rather nice NWR clue:

    Doctor hated curtains (5)

  19. Palm Monsieur put in his wine as 'food factor' (7)

  20. Palm Monsieur put in his wine as 'food factor' (7)

    vitamin

I had to look up 'types of palm'...

(By the way, Daron, on a PC, if you click the 'insert' option - the icon the the right of the film strip - it gives you drop-down options, one of which is 'spoiler'.)

  21. A ristorante serves this (not rare) bottled (4)

  22. A taste of yellow in every red and white (4)

  23. AZED 2299

Feature of wine pub served up in function (6)

Vintage fizzy Asti I avoided in cocktail (6)

  24. I haven't seen a wine-related clue for ages, but this from a recent Guardian crossword rather pleased me:

    Person with two hips (11)

  25. Booze: sporting host Jack drops half (5)

A Corbyn hand book released about booze (10)
