Torabhaig Legacy Series Allt Gleann - 46% abv; c.60€; non-chill filtered; no added colour; Skye
I believe this is just the second release from this new distillery in the Isle of Skye. This is a mix of 2017 and 2018 batches. I don't see any indication when this was bottled but it is of course a very young malt. But with strongly smoky ones, I don't seem to mind. I like your traditional Speyside with 12-18 years but I don't really get why but young smoky is often more to my taste than smoky with some age (Laphroaig Lore and some exceptions do exist). So how is such a young smoky Isle of Skye? Sensational. It starts out citric and only my second sniff shows how strongly smoky this is - and it is your stereotype of Islay smoky and peaty in strength. Lovely maritime salty breeze aromas and maybe the tiniest hint of medicinal/iodine/band-aid smoke/peat like you get with Laphroaig. No sweet and sherried cask aromas that I can sense so presumably it's all neutral used Bourbon casks. Great body and intensity, invigorating smoke and grassy peat without obstructing an attractive citric freshness. I didn't bother adding water since even at 46% abv this was strangely moreish for such an intense whisky. Lovely. Bought myself an entire bottle having tasted a dram.
