Update from the Cape

Just over three weeks in with only a few days to go, and visit number 12 or 13 to the Cape proves it once again to be nearly as wonderful as Keith Protheroe claims - which means it really is phenomenal :)

It's the combination of climate, scenery, food, wine and service that makes it exceptional in my experience, of course magnified by its affordability compared to the US, Australia, New Zealand or other long haul winter destinations. Accommodation is of such high quality too.

In the buzz of Cape Town again today, but 25 minutes from here you are sitting in a stunning vineyard restaurant surrounded by towering mountains and enjoying such fine food and wine. In another direction, some of the World's most beautiful coastal scenery.

We've been enjoying a lot of the icon wines - Columella, Skurfberg, Mullineux Granite and Schist, Vin de Constance and many more, but also discovering some new things and some great value.

It truly is a dream destination, especially for the food and wine lover.

Great photos Tom and Paul. It truly is a wonderful part of the world. We visited in 2000 and loved it so much that we bought a house within a week . Cost the equivalent of £75000 and was the best decision we ever made .
We are now permanent residents and stay here about 8 months a year . Another big plus for us is the quality of health care . You can see a doctor the same day at a cost of about £20 .Private hospitals are superb and a hip operation will set you back about £2000. Waiting time for operation——maximum of two weeks !!

Great photos. We also met Sam when we were out recently and looked around his new city winemaking place at The Flour Market in Gardens. Love his wines and looking forward to seeing the place when it's finished.

It’s such a great place to visit in so many ways. Just such a shame that the basket case economy makes everything so precarious. Looking forward to getting back down there soon.
