Italy is a magical wine country for so many reasons: the world’s biggest wine producer has extraordinary diversity, not only boasting 350 different grape varieties, but it’s fascintaing geography. From the snow-capped foothills of the Alps, down to the baking heat of Sicily and the deep south, and in between, the rolling Cyprus-covered hills of Chianti or the truffle country of Piedmont. It’s a real happy hunting ground for the wine lover.
With that amazing diversity Italy is also a country that can surprise, delight, but is harder to get to know in depth – there are so many barely-known corners producing some great wines. This tasting will take a virtual tour of Italy, travelling from the extremes of north to south and passing through six appellations as we go, concentrating on their indigenous grape varieties. We’ll explore Piedmont, Abruzzo, the Veneto, Sicily and more as we journey along the way.
We’ve sourced our wines for this tasting from an excellent independent wine merchant’s extensive Italian list. The selection will be offered at around £65, and will be discounted exclusively for our tasting. Details to be confirmed.
This tasting runs over two sessions, from 7pm – 8:15pm each evening. The ticket price of £25 covers both sessions and is per household, not per person. We’ll open three wines each night, but they’ll drink just as well over the next couple of days so nothing will be wasted.
You are welcome to attend without buying the accompanying wines, and if a date doesn’t suit, we’ll send you a recording of the session to taste along in your own time.
