Join us in Manchester City Centrefor this wine tasting which forms part of our “Grape Expecatations” course. Each month we will look at some of the world’s most famous and loved Red and White grape varieties and taste the diverse selection of varied flavours and styles of wines these grapes produce, showcasing some of our favourites. In August we will be tasting the hugely popular Sauvignon Blanc and the Italian classic Sangiovese.
Sangiovese, a red Italian wine grape variety derives its name from the Latin sanguis Jovis, meaning “the blood of Jupiter“. There are many different styles of Sangiovese produced all over Italy. From the delicate floral strawberry aromas of Montefalco Rosso to the intensely dark and tannic wines of Brunello di Montalcino, Sangiovese wine has something for everyone. At this tasting we will learn about the aromas and flavours and also look at some great food pairings to go with Sangiovese wines. Simon will also tell you the proper pronunciation of the word “Sangiovese” so you can order with confidence. Ciao Bella!
Sauvignon Blanc hails from France (mostly Bordeaux and the Loire Valley), but has become famous for it’s performance in countries that are thousands of miles away – how do the “Old World” examples stack up against their “New World” counterparts? Which will you like best? A Sancerre,a Pouilly-Fumé. or a “New World” ripe fruit and herbaceous wine from New Zealand’s Marlborough region. Join us on this one off tasting to see which wines live up to your own “grape expectations!”
On the night we will taste 6 wines accompanied by tasting notes and some cheese and ham to nibble on.
Perfect for those who love wine and want to know more. A great gift idea too!
