Choosing just one wine in each of our eight categories is a real challenge, but below is my best effort at naming the best of the best. The ninth category, ‘Thing of the year’, allows a free vote for absolutely whatever you want – an extra wine if you think you need it, but equally it might be your restaurant, movie, album or sporting event of the year – it’s your choice.
