Brancott Estate, Marlborough Sauvignon Gris 2013, New Zealand
Sauvignon Gris is not a cross of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris, its a variety in its own right and originally from the Bordeaux region, that is now beginning to find favour with winemakers in Chile and New Zealand in particular. Strangely enough its character is rather like
a cross of its two non-parents, as in this example which has some crunchy pea-pod verve aromatically, with plenty of smokiness and a deep, ripe nectarine fruit ripeness. In the mouth the extra
weight and texture over most Sauvignon Blanc is instantly noticeable, and it brims with that luscious fruit, hints of smoky and stony character and very good acidity offsetting the inherent sweetness
of the fruit. Watch the video for food matching suggestions and more information. £10.49, Tesco
