Pietas, Carignan Vieilles Vignes 2014, Languedoc, France
Just last week I caught up with the winemaker for Odfjell Vineyards in Chile, who told me of a new Chilean organisation called Vigno, dedicated to promoting that country’s old vine Carignan wines. The South of France is another area full of such old vine material, so it’s good to see it being celebrated in a wine such as this, that brims with juicy black fruit, etched with floral notes and a touch of chocolate or liquorice. In the mouth it overflows with straightforward but delcious black fruit altertness, juicy and fresh, tingling with black cherry skin brightness to the last drop.
