white wines

Feudo Maccari, Grillo 2013, Italy
IGT Sicilia, from Siracusa. A stony, lightly smoky and mineral aromatic, but not over overtly fruity in the aromatics. The palate has nice fruit, but it lacks a little spark, a little vitality. 84/100.

Feudo Maccari, Sultana Passito 2011, Italy
DOC Moscato Di Noto, from Siracusa. Moscato, Deep golden colour and an open orangey nose of oxidised, sweet nuttiness. The palate has a hint of toffee, a hit of luscious honey too, with a rich, thick viscous mouthfeel, raisins and nuts, but the overriding sweetness is beautiful. Gorgeous stuff of great length and elegance. 91/100

Planeta, Passito di Noto 2012, Italy
DOC Moscato Di Noto, from Siracusa. Delightful flowers and candy on the nose, lots of exotic mango and lychee notes amongst the florals, and delicious hints of mint and passionfruit. The palate is fully sweet and quite luscious, with gorgeous fruit, so delicately touched by flowers and it is racy too. delightful stuff, long and shimmering with bright fruit and fine acidity. Beautifully done and perfect balance. 93/100.

Baglio di Pianetto, Ra’is Moscato di Noto 2010, Italy
IGT Sicilia, from Siracusa. Fabulous honey, cake and even lightly petrolly, Riesling-like nose. Marzipan and almond from the oak, and then just delicious sweet fruit, thrilling zesty lemon and lime, that underpinning of toast and biscuit, and a long, very sharply focused finish, the sweetness balanced by the luscious body cleaved by fresh mineral and citrus acidity. Complex and lovely. 91/100.
