03/02/2008 – Yvonne Mau, Seigneurs de Monbazillac 2005

Yvonne Mau (France) Seigneurs de Monbazillac 2005
This wine from the Bordeaux negociant Yvonne Mau, is a Monbazillac, often a good source of Sauternes tastealikes, from a region a little to the east of Bordeaux. This wine is a Botrytised blend of 80% Semillon, with 15% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Muscadelle. And what a gorgeous little sweetie it is, the nose filled with unctuous notes of honey and roasted figs, with a touch of candied orange peel. The silky, creamy palate flushed with peach and apricot fruit. It has real sweetness through the mid-palate, though the whole picture is given some zest by elegant citrus acidity. Yummy and inexpensive stuff this, in a tall, elegant, 50cl bottle. £6.99, Tesco
