Feudi di San Gregorio (Italy) Fiano di Avellino 2000
What an easy Wine of the Week recommendation: this is a wine I have raved about since visiting the area a few months ago. I bought a case from a web retailer as soon as I came home, and have been enjoying it ever since. I haven’t recommended until now, because I couldn’t find a retailer of single bottles. Just last Friday, Oddbins secured a bin-end parcel which is available only in bigger stores with the widest range, including Fine Wine branches. This breaks the rule that a WotW should be widely available, but it is such a beautiful wine that I cannot resist. Crystaline purity on the nose; luscious notes of pear, almond, beeswax and honeysuckle. Cool, melony fruit on the palate, but rich texture and hints of honeyed, exotic fruit. The fine, long finish shimmers with acidity. This is a delicious unoaked wine of great richness, yet terrific poise and finesse. It is also available by the case from the other stockists listed. 8.99 Oddbins
