Domaine Laporte (France) ‘Ruscino’ 2000
Oddbins continues to source some excellent, well-priced and exclusive southern French wines, which are one of the main strengths of their current range. Brand new into their stores, there is no technical information on this very nice example, but I’d guess it’s a blend of southern staples like Syrah and Grenache, perhaps with some Merlot in there too giving a plummy, berried depth on the palate. It has a wonderfully vibrant, youthful purple colour and has a big, sweet, tarry and smoky nose of leather and cherries. The palate has an instantly dry and savoury appeal with mouth-coating tannins and loads of damson and black plum fruit. Medium bodied and well-balanced, this has a bit of structure too. 5.99 Oddbins
