Wine of the Week – 05/07/2009
6.99, Majestic Alain Grignon is a well-known producer in the Languedoc region of the south of France. This Viognier is a great example of the more refined expressions of the grape that are starting to replace ‘blowsier’ renditions, where early picking has resulted in a wine with only 12.5% alcohol and good acidity. It captures all those Viognier characteristics of flowers, apricots and cream on the nose, and floods across the palate with a rich and mouth-filling texture, again creamy and filled with peachy fruit, but a certain lemon confit acidity means very good crispness and balance.
