35 South (Chile) Chardonnay 2000
Sometimes choosing a Wine of the Week is a quest to find something different ; something that offers a new taste sensation, coming from an unusual grape variety, or newly discovered wine producing region. At other times I am struck by a wine like this lightly-oaked, Chilean Chardonnay that isn’t outstanding in any way, but just presents a delicious and beautifully balanced wine at a very fair price. The nose offer plenty of ripe pear fruit and a touch of apricot, with an overlay of creamy, butterscotchy oak and a zesty hint of citrus. On the palate it is medium-bodied and translucent, with crystal-clear pear and peach fruit, a little honeyed nuance and plenty of vanillin oak warming up the finish. Lovely on its own or with char-grilled chicken.4.79 Safeway
