Pewsey Vale (Australia) Eden Valley Riesling 2008
The latest vintage of a very long-established favourite here at wine-pages towers, the 2008 Eden Valley Riesling from Louisa Rose weighs in with a very modest 12.5% alcohol by volume, yet packs a terrifically intense punch. Pewsey Vale is part of the larger Yalumba group, but somehow it manages to retain its own style and identity, capturing the essential Eden Valley characteristics of fragrance and delicacy married to shimering acidity. The nose has white flowers and lime zest with little touches of hay and even a hint of paraffin – but not too much. On the palate this is a dry Pewsey Vale, with the mouth simply flooded with fresh-cut lime and crunchy apple fruit and acidity. It begins to reveal little sub-strata of minerality, a hint of juicy peaches and plenty of firm, bracing acid structure that extends into a long finish. These wines cellar remarkably well for a decade or more, but this is an invigorating and delicious drink right now. £9.99, Oddbins
