17/10/2010 – Errazuriz, Chardonnay 2009

Errazuriz, Chardonnay 2009, Chile
Errazuriz continues to make a range of very reliable wines that are easy to find on UK shelves, and this is one of the best from them I’ve tasted recently. The fruit is sourced from the Casablanca Valley, a foggy coastal area that was Chile’s original cool-climate paradise before a bunch of newer kids arrived on the block like Leyda, San Antonio and Limari. Barrel-fermneted, it has the Chardonnay nose I love with crushed oatmeal, almond and a creaminess rather than too much toast, the ripe but clean pear and melon fruit beneath being allowed to breathe. On the palate it has crisp orchard fruits and plenty of zippy lemon notes and acidity, that little nutty, oatmeally plushness just filling out the finish. balanced and delcious for sipping, and versatile with fish, schiken and creamy sauces. RRP is £7.99 at Majestic, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Booths and Peckhams.
