Tesco Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 1999
This Cabernet, bottled by the large and ultra-reliable Valdevieso winery, is a wonderful example of the super juicy, creamily fruited style that for me typifies the best of Chilean winemaking. The glossy, deep ruby colour hints at the plum, chocolate and ripe, sweet blackcurrant fruit of the nose. The palate offers a very concentrated but seamless picture of sweet black fruits melded to silky tannins and low to moderate acidity. The picture is one of plush, smooth fruit, but there’s enough of a bittersweet bite to maintain interest and make the wine very food friendly. Delicious and fairly priced for the quality.
