Marks & Spencer, Beaujolais Nouveau 2010, France
A sneak preview of a wine that won’t be on the shelves until Thursday 18th November. Yes, that’s the third Thursday of the month and the date on which the Beaujolais Nouveau first appears on shelves and in the wine bars of Paris, London and elsewhere. Though the heady days of the ‘Beaujolais run’ are long gone, the madcap race to bring the first bottle from France to London, it is still fun to celebrate this bit of frivolous wine history each year. This example is typically cherry and watercolour paint-box scented stuff, with a sappy freshness. On the palate it is juicy, racy and filled with easy cherry and berry fruit for glugging without too much concern over the ultimate seriousness of the wine. Great fun, and there is more information and some food matching ideas in the video. 6.99, Marks & Spencer.
