The Society’s Exhibition Saint-Aubin Rouge 2009, France
The Wine Society has 150 years of tradition behind it, and has relationships with many of the world’s great wine estates. Their own bottlings represent great value, and in fact the price of this one has dropped by one pound. It is a red Burgundy, 100% Pinot Noir, from the southern end of the Cote de Beaune made by the excellent Henri Prudhon. On the nose it has classic Pinot qualities with some undergrowith and leafy notes, raspberry and a hint of creamy strawberry ripeness. On the palate it is medium-bodied and well balanced. There’s a creaminess to the texture with red berry fruit, somewhat reminiscent of a good Cru Beaujolais too, and a really nice, versatile food wine.
