Wine of the Week – 12/07/2009
Single varietal Merlot isn’t a wine I choose very often as Wine of the Week, but this one offers something a bit different on UK supermarket shelves as it comes from the cool Washington state on the US West Coast, and offers a nicely mature wine at good price – even better during July 2009 when it is on offer at 4.99. On the nose it has a touch of tomato and soft strawberry fruit, and the palate has more of that soft, easy drinking style, but with a bit of structure. Not a wine for keeping, but delivers a lot for 5.99 in The Cooperative.
