Oxford Landing (Australia) Merlot 1998
This wine has a fragrant, powerfully fruity nose of plum, blackcurrant and raspberry which wafts from the glass. There is a chunky black chocolate depth too and some underpinning spice from American oak. On the palate it is silky and mouth-pleasing with a hint of sweetness, but a rugged fruitiness too. The mellow vanilla flavours of the oak envelope the fruit, and there are background tannins which give some backbone into a lip-smacking, low-acid finish. Thresher 5.49
