19/02/2012 – Trivento Reserve Syrah Malbec 2010

Trivento Reserve Syrah Malbec 2010, Argentina
Chilean giant Concha y Toro crossed the Andes a few years ago to set up Trivento in Argentina, making wines from traditional Argentine and French varieties. This blend of Syrah and Malbec is particularly successful because the character of both grapes comes through nicely in the mix. On the nose there is the delicate floral lift of violet and kirsch that Malbec can offer, some pepper, earthy spice and plum from the Syrah, and a little background of creamy oak too. In the mouth the juicy fruit drives this wine, and though there are quite chunky tannins and savoury acidity, it is the grippy plum and cherry, with that touch of earthy character, that flows through to the finish.
