Though most of Europe’s great Riesling comes from very northerly regions like Germany, Austria and Alsace in France, Australia produces a lot of extremely high quality Riesling too, most of it bone-dry and scintillating stuff. This is a classic from Jacob’s Creek, the nose a complex melange of citrus peel, flowers, wax and salty minerals, before a palate that is riven with acidity, an ultra-fresh mountain stream of citrus, making the mouth water but its austerity offset by bold fruitiness too.
