Bonterra (USA) Sauvignon Blanc 2007
Not many Sauvignons from California have made Wine of the Week, as it is a grape not usually associated with this region. This example, fron the organic vineyards of Bonterra in northern California is a nice one, especially at its discounted price. It is one of those wines that fall in the middle of the Sauvignon spectrum, with some of the grassy, tropical fruit of New Zealand, but the restrained and drier mid-palate of the Loire. Aromas of peach and passionfuit kick things off, with a touch of gooseberry and lychee and a hint of nettles. On the palate it is really quite vibrant and punchy, with a bit of marlborough-like verve and swagger, but a slightly more mineral, white fruit and lemon and lime core starts to build into a savoury finish. £9.99, Waitrose and Ocado
