Cuvee de Richard, VdP Comte Tolosan 2010, France
This white wine costs just 4.79 at full retail price: quite an acheivement for a really nice little fresh white, when tax and duty claims more than 2.50 before anything is put in the bottle. It comes from the Southwest of France, and on the nose has a real Sauvingon Blanc-like herbal lift, as well as a blast of lemony fruit. On the palate that mouth-watering zestiness continues, but there’s enough peachy, soft, ripe fruit to ensure there’s nothing tart or thin here: just a fresh, punchy and deliciously gluggable wine – especially at that price, and with a picnic-friendly 11.5% alcohol.
