Torres, Sangre de Toro 2010, Spain
Another wine that is such a familar bottle on UK shelves, having been produced for over 60 years by the excellent family company Torres, based in Catalunya near Barcelona in Spain. But this wine still delivers fantastic quality, a blend of Garnacha and Monastrell (Grenache and Mourvedre) the nose brims with dark, deep, savoury black fruit hinting at plum and brambles. There’s a background of earth and spice too, telling you this is going to be an excellent food wine. On the palate there’s plenty of that juicy berry fruit – like biting into a ripe plum – with those slightly tarts characters and nicely rustic tannins to cut through richer foods. An honest, open, quality red on great form. Watch the video for more information and food-matching suggestions. 7.99, Asda, Waitrose, Morrisons, Majestic. See all UK stockists on .
