16/02/03 – Brookland (Australia) Verse 1 Chardonnay 2001

Brookland (Australia) Verse 1 Chardonnay 2001
Until the middle of March 2003 I’ll be recommending wines which are delicious in their own right, but are also part of the 2003 Comic Relief campaign: 10% of the price of every bottle sold will go straight to the poorest people in Africa and at home. The administrative costs of the Comic Relief are met through separate sponsorship, so your money all goes where it is needed most. And the wine? Well, it is a beauty from the Margaret River region in Western Australia. The nose is delightfully honeyed, with nutty, leesy opulence, rich honeysuckle notes, and a slick of custardy vanilla. The palate is packed with buttery, rich peach fruit, with some tropical sweetness of pineapple and marzipan. There’s a sharpening edge of lemony acidity, but the finish stays quite broad and juicy. Oddbins 7.99. Snake Creek 2002 is another Australian Chardonnay that is also part of the Comic Relief offer. For a modest price this delicious wine delivers lovely aromatics, ripe tropical fruit, a touch of honey in the mouth and fine balance. Oddbins £4.99.
