Esporao, Arco Alentejo Tinto 2010, Portugal
The Esporao winery in the Alentejo region of southern Portugal is one of the country’s top estates, under the guidance of long-time Australian winemaker David Baverstock. This blend of Aragonez, Touriga Nacional and Shiraz has a powerful, fruity style with lots of plummy fruit depth, spice and a hint of cool, fresh cherry. It is a savoury wine, with masses of ripe fruit but also a nice chewiness, chunky rustic tannins and loads of personality. Not a silky-smooth and sophisticated wine, but authentic, delicious and a very good buy on offer.
