Pewsey Vale (Australia) Riesling 2000
Pewsey Vale, which comes from one of Australia’s top Riesling areas, the Eden Valley, holds the distinction of being wine-pages most honoured wine! This is the third time it has been ‘wine of the week’ since the 1996 vintage first held the title in 1998. Once again it is just a delightful, shimmering, limpid beauty of a white wine with a floral and wax nose that heaves with slightly butterscotchy pear and apple fruit. On the palate it is full and smooth-textured, with gorgeous ripe, sweet, pear and peach flavours, and bracing citrus and mineral acidity. There’s a hint of sweetness too, that adds a lush appeal, although the finish is dry and pure. At 8.99 it is decent value, Thresher/Victoria Wine/Bottoms Up/Wine Rack.
