Errazuriz (Chile) Sauvignon Blanc 2004
Sauvignon Blanc has not been one of Chile’s strong points historically, but recently more and more winemakers having been coaxing excellent results from this grape, including this screw-capped bottling from Vina Errazuriz in Chile’s cool Casablanca Valley. It has a beautifully focused tropical fruit nose with hints of lychee and mango, with a smoky quality and a little cut of grassy crispness. On the palate it is full and rich, with a mealy, full-textured mouth-feel and a terrific verve and punchy fruit personality. Notes of succulent nectarine and a waxy lime quality are joined by a blast of juicy acidity in the fresh, long finish. £5.99 Oddbins, Thresher.
