Marmesa Vineyards, Cabrillo Peak Pinot Noir 2007
The interest in this wine from the Santa Lucia Highlands in Califronia really kicks-in on July 19th, when Bibendum launch their summer sale and its price drops from 15.55 to just 7.20. Hard to say why the discount is so deep, but at seven quid this becomes a bargain: there’s fresh, sappy Pinot fruit, truffle and coffee on the nose before a light and slightly herbal palate, but the fruit comes through and the charry oak adds some depth and power to the finish. Not the most elegant example, but genuine Pinot character and seriously nice drinking at the sale price. £7.20, bibendum-wine.co.uk.
