19/05/02 – Peter Lehmann (Australia) Clancy’s Red 2000

Peter Lehmann (Australia) Clancy’s Red 2000
An old favourite, ‘repositioned’ in the market down from 8.99 to 6.99 since the last vintage. Whilst the wine now seems to have a lighter style, it still offers copious amounts of sweet, jammy fruit and smoky, spicy oak in a very easy to drink format. A blend of Shiraz (38%), Cabernet Sauvignon (37%), Merlot (17%) and a dash of Cabernet Franc (8%), it has an inviting, velvety, mulberry and sweet vanillin nose, which follows on to the palate with mellow, softly-spiced melange of cinnamon, cherries, raspberry and darker nuances of chocolate and damson plum. There is some juicy acidity and a freshening stripe of tannin into the lingering finish. Still lovely stuff, and with the current discount at Sainsbury’s, a bit of a bargain. On offer through May in Sainsbury’s at 5.99, or 6.99 in Asda and Waitrose.
