Miolo, Sparkling Brut Rosé NV
There are some people who fear that the dominance of the big supermarkets and multiple players on the UK wine retailing scene means diversity is in danger and we will end up with shelf after shelf of cheap big brands. But recent developments suggest all hope is not lost with retailers like Marks & Spencer launching a Mediterranean section with wines from the Lebanon and elsewhere, and now Waitrose listing new wines from China and, this one, from Brazil. Made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir by the traditional Champagne method, it has a deep cherry colour and moderately small bubbles. The nose is attractive, filled with cherry and reducrrant aromas and a touch of lemon meringue pie with pastry, cream and citrus. On the palate it has plenty of sweet, mouth-filling berry fruits and a soft mousse that make it very easy to drink, a real sweet ripness, but offset by some good acidity keeping the finish fresh. Stylish stuff. Watch the video for more information and for food-matching suggestions for this wine. 11.99, Waitrose and Waitrose online. For all stockists see .
