Graham Beck Antony’s Yard 2002
This Bordeaux-blend comes from one of the most dynamic producers in South Africa. It spends 12 months in French oak and has a beautifully poised pencil-shaving and cedarwood nose, with elegant black fruit and a sense of bright, juicy cherry too. On the palate there is a long, cool, pure core of redcurrant and blackcurrant fruit, with a medium-bodied elegance and lots of support from toasty, slightly coffee-ish oak. Tannins are quite grippy but refined and it has very good balance indeed. Drink this with rare roast beef, a steak, or with barbecues if you keep it through to the summer. It really is a beautifully poised wine, which is great value at £6.99 at Majestic
