Tagus Creek Rosé 2008, Portugal
It feels odd – unnatural – to be recommending a rose as we head rapidly towards winter, but then the notion of rose as purely a summer drink is now several years out of date, as sales and the nation’s wine shelves will testify. This Portuguese rose is part of the Tagus Creek range that blends one international grape with one native grape, in this case Shiraz with Touriga Nacional. It is a deep coloured and flavoured pink, that’s really more of a light red, with soft strawberry fruit but also some spice and an earthy, tobacco-infused character that is food-friendly. It also bears the red poppy of the Royal British Legion, with 5p donated to that cause from every bottle sold. 5.99, Waitrose.
