Rosedale, Barossa Shiraz 2008, Australia
An archetypal Barossa Shiraz that is absolutely flooded with deep, silky, abundantly ripe black fruits. On the nose it is like a bowl of liquidised black cherries and blackcurrants, with a hint of earthiness and pepper, and a chocolate and toasty depth from just a few months in mostly French oak. The palate heaves with that same silky fruit, the sweetness of the fruit filling the mouth, but all the time creamy tannins and modest but adequate acidity giving length and balance. This is a real crowd pleaser with its seductive fruit, but it is beautifully made and great value too: a terrific wine. £7.99, Luvians, The Sampler, Halifax Wine Co.
