02/11/2013 – Chateau Les Sablines Monbazillac 2010

Chateau Les Sablines, Monbazillac 2010, France
Just to the east of Bordeaux lies the region of Bergerac, growing near identical grape varieties and making similar wines. Mirroring Sauternes in Bordeaux, Monbazillac specialises in sweet, often Botrytis-affected wines too, and made from the same varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. This example has a lovely golden colour and a nose that whilst honeyed and barley sugar rich, also has delicate tangerine and leaf tea notes. On the palate it is silky but medium-bodied, with plenty of sweetness, hinting at nectarine and mango, but with that fresh and cleansing core of citrus. Delicious and well priced too for 50cl.
