23/12/2012 – Blason de Bourgogne, St Veran 2010

Blason de Bourgogne, St Veran 2010, France
Having offered and for Christmas in the last couple of weeks, this is a last minute recommendation for a turkey-friendly wine that’s very easy to find as it’s in Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose. Blason de Bourgogne is the label of a large cooperative cellar whose inexpensive Bourgogne Chardonnay is very reliable. This St Veran from the Maconnaise region of southern Burgundy comes from 2010, which is shaping up to be a superb Burgundy year. Though not a chart-topping example, it has classic honeysuckle and orchard fruit notes of Chardonnays from this region, with a hint of oatmeal and more nectarine-like ripeness. On the palate it is fresh and crisp, but it’s a wine with juicy citrus and a certain buttery texture, as well as those tropical pineapple and nectarine hints persisting to leave it balanced and crisp whilst being very easy to drink. 10.99.
