Tosti (Italy) Sparkling Pinot Grigio
Well, with the festive season well and truly upon is, what’s not to like about this terrific party fizz? Sparkling versions of the popular Italian varietal Pinot Grigio are few and far between, though I reckon this delicious, good-time sparkler would be pretty hard to beat for under 6. This is a tank method wine, so the secondary fermentation takes place in bulk, not in individual bottles. As usual, this gives a fresh, fruity, very direct nature to the wine with little in the way of complexity, but plenty of delightfully crisp and generously full fruit. The nose of this has sweet, ripe grapy aromas, peach and a tropical hint pineapple. On the palate it is full-bodied and powerful, with loads of peachy, punchy fruit and decent acidity, with no sign of tartness or tightness. No, there is no classic Champagne toast or yeasty complexity, but this is not a vino da meditazione , just a gluggable and yummy wine that should find friends in just about any crowd. Tesco, 5.99
