21/02/2010 – Seifried, Sweet Agnes Riesling 2008

Seifried, Sweet Agnes Riesling 2008, New Zealand
A few months ago it would have been impossible for me to recommend this wine to a British wine loving audience: under a complex set of trade restrictions, the sweet wines of New Zealand could not be imported into the EU. But since December 2009 it is all change, and I am delighted to say this spearheading late-harvest wine from Seifried Estate in Nelson sets an excellent standard, There is lime and orange blossom on the nose, leading onto a glycerine-rich, honeyed palate with lots of zest and lift from that clear lemony acidity, but it is long, balanced and delicious. Around £15.00, Naked Wines, Laithwaites, Waitrose online.
