20/03/2011 – d’Arenberg, The Stump Jump 2009

d’Arenberg, The Stump Jump 2009, Australia
There have been early signs of Spring in the UK weather scene, and what better Springtime wine could there be than this fresh, unoaked blend of aromatic grapes varieties from d’Arenberg of McLaren Vale. It is a quirky and unusual blend of Riesling, Marsanne and Sauvignon Blanc from winemaker Chester Osborne, a man full on innovative wine ideas. With searingly fresh aromas of lime cordial, blossom and then ripe, sweet melon fruit, it hits the palate with quite a broad texture thanks to the Marsanne, but then that beautiful clarity of citrus and stone fruits. It is very ripe, very fruity, but the shimmering acidity of the finish and modest 12.5% alcohol gives it lovely elegance.
