Hardy’s (Australia) Oomoo Shiraz 2001
Oomoo was amongst the first of Thomas Hardys wine labels, and the name has just been revived to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Hardys Wines. Today’s Oomoo is a McLaren Vale Shiraz, fermented in open fermenters and matured in French and American barriques for 18 months. It is a rich, deep, voluptuously vanillin wine with a mass of dark, berry fruits and a spicy, dark character. On the palate it is quintessential McLaren Vale Shiraz, with a seam of dark chocolate-coated raisiny sweet fruit, masses of plummy depth and an array of spices and peppery notes. Big, oaky and joyously fruity, this wine put a smile on my face, and delivers plenty of bangs per buck. £7.99 Thresher, Asda
