24/06/01 – Nepenthe (Australia) Lenswood Semillon 1998

Nepenthe Vineyards (Australia) Lenswood Semillon 1998
Semillon is one of the main grapes of white Graves from Bordeaux, where it is blended with Sauvignon Blanc, adding flavour, richness, texture and longevity. In Australia it is most famous in the Hunter Valley, where connoisseurs appreciate its ability to gain a honeyed, toasty complexity with age. The balance and structure of this Adelaide Hills wine suggest it will most certainly develop over 10 years or more in bottle, but it is hard to resist now for its ripe, honeysuckle and melon aromas tinged with butter and lime, leading on to a smooth, dense, creamy palate. There is white fruit and citrus, vanilla and a gentle, smoky toastiness. Balanced by generous acidity into a long finish, this is terribly classy and quite delicious. 9.99 Oddbins
