Louis Jadot (France) Bourgogne Chardonnay 2000
I really enjoyed this wine, tasting it first, then sipping a glass or two with a saffron and yellow pepper risotto. Jadot is a huge negociant business, and though 8.99 seems expensive for their entry-level white wine, the quality is there to justify the price. 50% of the wine is vinified in stainless steel, the other half in oak barrels. This gives a pleasant background creaminess on the nose, with hints of nuttiness, but mostly clean orchard fruit aromas. On the palate it is precise and focused, with a medium-bodied texture and abundant, crisp white fruit flavours. There’s plenty of cut and verve with beautifully honed acids, but the clarity of fruit pushes through into a clean, firm finish. A nicely grown-up style of Chardonnay, and a wonderfully versatile and food-friendly wine. Everywine, Edencroft Wines, Thresher, Wine Rack, Bottoms Up, Victoria Wine, Sainsbury’s, £8.99
