02/05/2010 – Loimer, Grüner Veltliner 2009

Loimer, Grüner Veltliner 2009, Austria
It’s a while since we’ve had a Gruner Veltliner as Wine of the Week, though the grape continues to be very popular, especially on restaurant wine lists. Some Gru-Vs are sweet and rich, some very racy and lean, and this falls between those styles, but staying elegant despite some weight and texture. There is pepper and spice on the nose, a touch of floral character, but lots of crunchy apple and lemon fruit. The palate has a mouth-filling texture and merest hint of sweetness, but the lovely crisp fruit and acidity romps through. £12.99, Rannoch Scott Wines
